The Pain and Palliative Care Unit - Multidisciplinary Oncology Centre,University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) is the premier pain management and palliative medicine facility in South East Nigeria. Founded in 2008, the Unit caters to the palliative care needs of patients with chronic, life-limiting ailments such as chronic pain conditions, cancer, diabetes mellitus, HIV/AIDS and sickle-cell disease.

Our staff consists of friendly and dedicated doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, social workers, volunteers and Chaplin whose exceptional professional conduct towards patients and their families have generated several accolades. Our multidisciplinary team has the experience to care for both children and adults with pain and other symptoms associated with life-limiting illnesses. Many of the staff have professional affiliations and memberships with National and International Oncology and Palliative Care professional bodies such as African Palliative Care Association (APCA), the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC), the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Nigeria (APC), the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
